The Climate Action Data Portal is an online resource for climate planning data for the San Diego region. "Climate planning" refers to the process of preparing for and reducing the effects of climate change in local planning.

The Climate Action Data Portal builds off of the SANDAG Regional Climate Action Planning Framework (ReCAP), a guidance document that establishes regionally consistent methods for climate planning. Jurisdictions in the San Diego region use this framework to identify best practices for preparing, updating, or implementing a Climate Action Plan.

The Climate Action Data Portal currently includes vehicle miles traveled (VMT) data for all of the jurisdictions in the region, as well as greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and climate activity data for 15 of the 16 cities that are part of the SANDAG Roadmap Program which encompasses SANDAG’s climate planning services.

How to use the Climate Action Data Portal:

  • To view regionwide vehicle miles traveled (VMT) by roadway, switch the button in the lower right corner of the map to the right (or to “ON”). To return to the clean map view, switch the button in the lower right corner to the left (or to “OFF”).
  • To view local vehicle miles traveled (VMT) (Origin-Destination [O-D] and by roadway), click on a jurisdiction on the map, then on the desired tab. To return to a clean map view, click the “X” button in the bottom right corner of the box.
  • To view a local jurisdiction’s climate activity data, click on a jurisdiction on the map and click the “View ReCAP Snapshot” button.
  • To view the rest of the Climate Action Data Portal, navigate using the tabs in the upper right of the page.
